🏃‍♀️ One way to hold athletes accountable

Accountability, how to get faster, + more

What’s up y’all? Cici here.

Welcome back to More Her Speed, a weekly no-BS newsletter all about women in coaching.

No I in TEAM

This past week I wrapped up training with the Palos Verdes Girls Lacrosse team and man..

What an amazing experience.

I worked with them once a week (for eight weeks), and gave them supplemental workouts to do outside of the speed session.

This is a model we use a lot with our in-person consulting clients that we visit once per week.

Whether that be hills, acceleration, or top speed exposure… it’s a great means for extra improvement & accountability.

With some of these groups, I often try to get them in a group chat where everyone can send their workouts so not only can I make sure everyone’s getting the work in, but I’ll send a picture or video of me doing the same workout.

It's a great buy-in and competition factor that has been a really key aspect in athletes trusting you and trusting themselves to do what they say they’re going to do.

How to go from Fast to Faster

I’m loving these questions on Instagram and Twitter, so here’s another one I received that I think many of you can relate to.

Q: What is the major difference between fast athletes and slow athletes?

A: Aside from the obvious, the more TIMES you run fast, the faster you will become.

Technically, faster athletes are able to significantly and effectively put force into the ground.

We have athletes that can produce a really high amount of force and in the right direction. Some of these guys run 24 mph and technically, there are a number of things we could probably fix.

But if they’re running 24 mph, there’s only so much you would want to touch.

As a coach, you don’t want to mess with what has gotten them to that speed, so at a certain point you’ve got to pick your battles and choose maintenance of good qualities over incorporating a bunch of new cues.
