Equipment talk, jumping, + more

What’s up y’all? Cici here.

Welcome back to More Her Speed, a weekly no-BS newsletter all about women in coaching.

Never Leave the House without it…

I want there to be some more back and forth between me and y’all.

So, I put out a question box on my instagram this week, and got a ton of good questions. I’m going to try to answer one question in each of these newsletters moving forward.

I think this is a great way to connect and a ton of y’all ask the same questions… so I know these answers will benefit the group.

Q: What is the best equipment to buy that is portable and can be taken to and from practice?

A: This answer is multifaceted (as most are lol). As a coach or an athlete looking for accessible training equipment - bands are portable, light, and easy to incorporate into training. Aside from mobility and band assisted stretching, bands can be used for resisted drills and sprinting. It’s an easy way to get the stimulus of the resistance, without hauling sleds, plates, run rockets, 1080, etc.

If you’re looking for a testing or assessment tool, Output Sports is the GOAT. Those guys recently released a V2 update to their software and hardware, and it can now be accessed and used on the field.

This was really helpful with our combine and NFL offseason guys when doing CMJ and RSI testing, or monitoring readiness and fatigue.

Jumping out the Gym

Most of us in the strength and performance lane know who Zach is. He puts out a great perspective that I always enjoy tapping into.

I love this demo video because it gives a handful of multidirectional (and somewhat unconventional) jumps and hops.

Baseball specifically has a lot of lateral and rotational components, but almost all sports can utilize these in their training program.

When people think of jump training, they often think of one plane and limited movement, and frankly that just doesn’t transfer over in real-game situations.

I will be covering this topic a bit more in depth in the near future… Stay tuned.

Quote of the Week
